Proceeds from NYC’s beloved Celtic Christmas concert, the Pipes of Christmas will now benefit a student of Scottish music and composition at Edinburgh Napier University.

The Clan Currie Society Music Award will support a third year music student at the university through an award of £1000. The recipient will present a public concert of their music as part of the scholarship.

Robert Currie, executive producer of the Pipes of Christmas, said: “The award reflects the role of Clan MacMhuirich (Currie) in Scotland’s historic Gaelic culture as a race of poets and musicians who preserved the past through poetry, laments and battle incitements.”

“That rich heritage is why we are so pleased that our Society is able to put its name to an initiative encouraging the next generation of traditional musicians and composers at Edinburgh Napier through funds raised at our annual holiday concert.”

The application process will open on 30 March with a closing date of 7 September.

Graham Weir, head of music at Edinburgh Napier, said: “This exciting new award allows us to strengthen our connection to Scottish traditional music, building on our innovative programmes in classical and popular music and sound production and technology.

“We are very grateful to the Pipes of Christmas and Clan Currie for establishing it and for their continued support for arts at Edinburgh Napier.”
